What Is A Carpenter Bee?
Carpenter bees are a solitary bee species.They are a large bee species that range in length from 1/2 to 1 1/2 inch in length. Males are black and orange in color and females are completely black in color. They are often confused with bumble bees but do not have a hairy abdomen; A carpenter bees abdomen is black and shiny
Why Do I Have Them?
Carpenter bees like to use unpainted, unstained , weathered softwoods as nesting and overwintering areas. They will make their nest in the tunnels that they create through the wood. Areas that are often affected are decks, porches and sheds. Carpenter bees do not eat the wood. Breeding pairs will return to the same area year after year, increasing the amount of carpenter bee damage to your structure.
Are They Dangerous?
Males do not have a stinger, but are aggressive and will fly around the entrance to protect it.
